I think it’s interesting to have but as a beginner not very useful as you most likely won’t be mixing you’re own chem. Someone else reccomended the darkroom cookbook. These books and Adams himself are the progenitor of a lot of modern film photo mantras, most notably the idea of “shooting for the shadows, developing for the highlights” Those should give you a good basis for the work and should outline all steps of the process.Īnsel Adams’ 3 books The Camera, The Negative, and The Print were something I found once I was more sound in my practice and it really changed the way I went about shooting and developing my film. His Black and White Photography: a Basic Manual is what I learned from. Henry Horenstein’s manuals/textbooks on both color and black and white photography are quite good.
